County Senior Hurling Champions 2008,
Rathdowney-Errill visit St. Fergal's

On Sunday 12th October 2008, the Senior Hurlers of the parish (Rathdowney-Errill) won the senior Hurling county final defeating Portlaoise by one point in a very closely contested game.

On Monday 13th, St. Fergal's College gave another warm welcome to the newly crowned county champions, who had visited the college in 2006 after winning the same title. Many of the panel are past pupils of St. Fergal's and had also played hurling for the school during their time here.

Well done to all involved on another great victory.

Proud Day For St. Fergal’s

St. Fergal’s College gave a warm welcome to the Rathdowney/Errill County Hurling Champions when they visited the school in October 2006 after their historic win. Of the 29 man panel 28 had been pupils of St. Fergal’s and had represented the school in hurling.

Mr. John Casey, hurling trainer at St. Fergal’s spoke of his pride in their achievement and reminisced over past victories. Liam Wyne (Captain), Sean O’ Dea and Tim Barry also spoke, encouraging students to follow their example and continue the proud tradition of hurling in St. Fergal’s.

This has been a great year (2006) for Rathdowney/Errill with St. Fergal’s winning two All Ireland Titles – Senior Hurling and Camogie and the Rathdowney/Errill team winning the county final.
