Leaving Cert 2006 Graduation Celebration
Following the Celebration on May 25th in Racket Hall for the victorious All-Ireland camogie and hurling teams, St. Fergal’s College was in celebratory mood again on Monday May 29th as parents and teachers bid farewell to the Leaving Certificate Students of 2006.
The Graduation Ceremony began with mass celebrated by Fr. Patrick Carey, attended by Fr. Eamon Foley P.P. and prepared by Ms. Noeleen Lynam with the help of the students.
In his address to the students, Fr. Carey spoke of the freedom they enjoy but also reminded them that with freedom comes responsibility. Principal Mrs. Áine O’ Neill then spoke, telling them to embrace their future with enthusiasm but not to be afraid to look for help from teachers and parents in the future.
The occasion was greatly enhanced by the school choir led by Ms. Margaret Creagh and Ms. Sharon Murphy. They were accompanied by musicians Helen Fortune, Briony O’ Toole, Kate Hyland and Tom Bergin. Soloists were Chloe Kilcare and Lisa Guilfoyle.
In a speech laced with humour and anecdotes of their six years in St. Fergals, Year Head Ms. Josephine Dermody, on a more serious note gave them one very important piece of advice. “Remember when making decisions or taking any action that there are always consequences and you must be prepared to take these consequences”.
Linda Power of Bank Of Ireland then presented the awards for achievement, sport academic, and attendance which are very generously sponsored by Bank Of Ireland every year.
