Huge developments have taken place in I.T. in St. Fergal’s in the last number of years. During the summer of 2005 all three buildings on the campus were networked so that all classrooms were ready for internet access.

The school has also been connected for Broadband. The purpose of the schools Broadband Network is to provide St. Fergal’s students and staff with a fast secure and controlled Internet access, which can be used simultaneously by the whole class.

These new developments have meant we now possess a modern state of the art computer room with all computers having Broadband access as a result of our new network. Printing has now become a lot more efficient and convenient.

During the Autumn term of 2007 a second computer room has been set up in another area of the school. This new room with twenty up to date computers was established to facilitate the changes in the Leaving Certificate Design & Communication Graphics, Engineering & Construction Courses which now contain a computerised module.

A number of new computers have been placed in many of the general classrooms to facilitate the use of ICT in learning. This now allows research to take place more easily and also it facilitates the use of educational software. During the Spring term of 2010 fifteen new Data Projectors were also installed. This modern equipment enhances the learning environment in all classrooms and adds a new dimension to our teaching methodologies.

Kurzweil Software has also been purchased for use by any Special Needs student who may need it. This software enables text to be scanned onto the computer and then it allows the computer to read the text back for the student.

There are exciting times ahead for all of us in St. Fergal’s in using and working with these new facilities.
