St. Fergal’s College Dedication Ceremony

dedication</div>_1.jpg

In September 2006, the feast of St. Fergal was uniquely marked by the dedication of a stained glass window to St. Fergal’s College, Rathdowney. The window depicting St. Fergal was donated by the Parish of Rathdowney/Errill and is now the focal point of the Religion Room in the College.

The work began some years ago when it was decided that the stained glass windows in the disused Grogan Church should be removed and restored. The windows which were in a bad state were removed by Joe Sheridan, Stoneyford, and the job of restoration began. Now six of the windows adorn the Church in the Rower, three more are destined for Glenmore and St. Fergal, Patron Saint of St. Fergal’s, former Abbot of Aghaboe and Bishop of Salzburg takes up a central position in St. Fergal’s College.
It is hoped that one final window, that of St. Colmcille will be restored and installed in Errill Church in the not too distant future.

It was fitting that Fr. Foley who had spearheaded the restoration of the windows, officiated at the Dedication Ceremony. It was he who brought Mrs. A. O’ Neill, Principal and Ms. Noeleen Lynam to brave the briars and overgrowth surrounding the Church on their initial visit to view the window.
Mr. Pat Keeshan, teacher at St. Fergal’s gave a brief outline of the history of St. Fergal and Mrs. Áine O’ Neill, Principal thanked Fr. Foley for his generosity, hardwork and commitment to the project.
