St. Fergal’s Got Talent

On Wednesday 2nd December 2009, St. Fergal’s College was the venue for a talent show which rivalled the X Factor in terms of talent, energy and excitement. A variety of gifted performances belted it out on stage encouraged by the cheers of a packed audience of students, parents and teachers.

This show was the brainchild of the schools Prefects, spearheaded by Tadhg Keane, Head Prefect. This enthusiastic bunch worked tirelessly for the last number of weeks and detailed planning was very evident on the night. Leon Geoghegan and Emily Glendon were very professional MC’s and “Simon Cowell” and his fellow judges were there in the persona of Pat Roe, Vicky Murphy, Aoife Doocey and Alan Fogarty. Popular local D.J. Noel Brennan, a former pupil of St. Fergal’s, provided the sound and advice on the night.

Martin Delaney, whose father Martin is well known in music circles, won first prize for his spirited rendition of Alleluia. He has won many prizes for his traditional singing and on the night accompanied himself on guitar. The first prize was generously sponsored by the Parents Council and local businesses were also very supportive and donated spot prizes.

Other finalists included Emma Kelly (2nd), Kevin Matthews and Michael Hickey (Joint 3rd), Maria Mackay, the O’ Grady Sisters, Karen Curran, Rossa Parlon, Aoife Best, Rebecca Treacy and Andrew Carroll.

The school Choir also performed and a surprise appearance by Jedward aka Tadhg Keane and Oisin Loughman brought the house down and was a fitting finale to a great nights entertainment.
