On 4/12/13 the Laois Cross Country Championships took place in Killenard. A comparatively new sport for St. Fergal’s this was our 3rd year competing and was, undoubtedly, our most successful to date. A total of 28 athletes took part in all grades from Minor through to Senior.
On the individual front Gold medals were won by Diarmuid Conway in the Junior Boys event and by Luke Herke in the Intermediate boys. Silver went to Chris Rafter in the Junior Boys, Bronze to Darren Bowe in the Minor boys and Silver and Bronze to Eoin Fitzpatrick and Mark Kavanagh respectively in the Senior Men’s race. Medals for minor placings were won by many athletes across the board for a hugely successful haul.
In the team events Fergal’s also excelled. The Intermediate boys were shaded for Gold, losing out by just a point. In the Senior Mens event a similar result, a great silver losing out by a point to Portlaoise C.B.S. Even more unlucky were the Intermediate girls team who tied with Heywood for Gold but lost on the highest placed 4th finisher. All in all a great days running and a wonderfully successful outing.
