Protocols and practises relating to the supervision and care of students

Supervision of pupils within school grounds:

Classes begin at 8.40 am and finish at 3.30 pm Monday to Thursday and at 12.55 pm on Friday. Supervision is provided, as per circular Ppt01/03, for 15 minutes before classes commence, at break-time and at lunch-time in all corridor areas. The pitches, yard and MUGA are supervised during Lunch-time and at break-time.

Illness:

Parents (or emergency contact person) will be contacted to collect a child who falls ill during the day. In exceptional circumstances a staff member may bring a child home or to the doctor or hospital. In such circumstances at least TWO students from the child’s group must accompany the teacher. The teacher must have indemnified Laois & Offaly ETB on their car insurance policy.

Sporting /extra-curricular activities.

It is school policy to send, where possible, two adults, one male and one female with mixed groups under 16 years of age. Teams are accompanied by their coach. First aid kits are provided.

Work Placement.

Insurance cover is provided for students participating in Work Experience placements. Contact is made with the provider and the school reserves the right to check out the placement location. Certain activities (listed on the insurance form) are not permitted.
