The Aoife Doocey Award is presented to the overall best student in Transition Year. It is a perpetual award and is given to the student who is deemed to have achieved best across the whole spectrum of TY- Academic, Personal & Social, Participation, Commitment to TY values etc. It represents all that is great about our students and is a tremendous mark of achievement for the winner.
Aoife herself was a magnificent advocate of the TY programme and the core values and vision it represents here in St. Fergal’s. She taught Irish in TY from her first year in the school and the annual Gaeilge trip to Colaiste Acla in Achill Island was arguably the highlight of the year.
The inaugural winner of the Aoife Doocey award was in 19/20 and went to Ella Hayes. This year’s winner was Katie Phelan, whose award will be formally presented on September 21. We were honoured and privileged to have Aoife’s husband Patrick Mullaney present the first award to Ella.
