U17 Soccer vs Scoil Mhuire January 2014

It was a cold Tuesday January morning when the St Fergal’s u17 soccer team travelled to Clane in Co. Kildare to play Scoil Mhuire.  This was a must win match and St. Fergal’s started brightly with a goal inside the opening 5th minute, Eric Killen rose highest to header the ball into the bottom right hand corner after an excellent delivery from Paddy McCane .  The lead was short lived however as there was a mix up between St Fergal’s defenders and the goal keeper, Jack Ryan. This lead to a tap in for the Scoil Mhuire front man just 10 minutes after the opener. Five minutes after their first goal Scoil Mhuire took the lead when their winger stormed down the field only to miss hit the ball which surprising defenders and the goal keeper nestled in the Fergal’s net. Just before the break Scoil Mhuire ended the tie as a contest when their center midfielder took a stunning shot which rifled into the top right hand corner. St Fergal’s battled throughout the game but could not break down Scoil Mhuire’s deference. However they did get a consolation goal 5 minutes from full time when sub Dean Carey slotted home on the edge of the six yard box.   A very hardworking display from Fergal’s unfortunately not quite good enough.
